Contact Capital Scrap Metal to find out how to scrap an air conditioner! Air conditioners contain a number of different materials such as aluminum, copper, wiring, and electric motors. All of these are great for scrapping. It could be beneficial to take your air conditioner apart prior to bringing it to us for recycling.
AC units are filled with many non-ferrous metals, and generally contain several poundsof copper.
Don’t forget AC units contain radiators. But, they are almost strictly copper-aluminum. This means they have aluminum fins with copper tubes. Clean them by removing all steel contamination from the aluminum-copper. You get a better price for clean radiators. Save recyclable steel, too.
Air conditioners also contain several compounds such as freon and other refrigerants and oils that by federal law must be removed and recovered. This is regulated by the U.S. federal government under the Clean Air Act.  It is against the law to remove it yourself and can result in a hefty fine from the EPA. Call a licensed HVAC contractor to do this for you.
Cooling products usually are made of steel, copper, and other recyclable parts as noted above. Needless to say, these items are worth taking apart if you know what you’re doing. If you don’t know, call Capital Scrap Metal’s experts for information!
